Less penalties this year? Better pray on it... Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Bless You

After multiple calls to take action, the NFL has officially stated that the 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Husain Abdullah was incorrectly called as he celebrated his TD by prostrating to God. Hmm…Chad Johnson anyone?

Practice…We’re Talkin’ About Practice

Mike Tomlin has a solution to all the penalties that his Steelers have committed so far this season – bring the refs to practice. Apparently this move will teach Antonio Brown how to celebrate a TD (which by the way, his celebration was about as bland as they come – maybe add the sign of the cross next time) and how to ensure that they never retaliate for someone grabbing their facemask…Hmm, well I guess this is something considering the Steelers are on pace to set an NFL record for penalty yards in a season.

Statistics Don’t Lie

Interesting tidbit: penalties are up 16% since last season at this same point.

Gettleman and the Gentleman

Make no mistake- Steve Smith made it clear that his departure from Carolina was anything but mutual and all personal. After catching 7 passes for 139 yards and 2 TDs on Sunday against his old team, Smith stated that it was personal between he and Carolina GM Dave Gettleman: “I don’t have anything to say to Dave Gettleman. He told me what he thought of me. And my play [Sunday] told me what I thought of him.” Hmm, lets hope Gettleman got the memo to mow Smith’s lawn too…

Fantasy Studs and Duds:

Stud: Larry Donnell – 3 TDs for this TE who happened to bench himself in his own fantasy league! Oh my…well Eli liked his chances this week.

Stud: DeMarco Murray – 149 yards and 2 TDs as he rolled over the Saints D. It isn’t often that the Cowboys get their running game up and running (yes, I know what I did there) but when Murray is healthy and the line holds, lights out for this back.

Dud: Nick Foles and LeSean McCoy– Foles Gold was exactly that this weekend – less than 200 yards and 2 INTs – ouch. And McCoy…someone help this guy out! Second straight week under 25 yards and no TDs…yes UNDER 25 TOTAL yards. Frankly, the Eagles offense didn’t even fly west for this game.

Dud: Calvin Johnson – 12 yards…yes, he had an ankle issue but the Jets secondary looked like a great matchup for him. Lets hope his recovery is quick.
