Hester’s High Step in Hotlanta

Devin Hester, who has expressed how he was unhappy the last few years in Chicago and in March was told he would not be returning as a Bear, must be a bit happier nowadays. The Atlanta Falcons completely humiliated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night in a 56-14 beating. To aid his team, Hester surpassed Deion Sanders as the league leader in kick returns for a TD and did his best high step tribute into the end zone to celebrate which landed him with a taunting penalty. Considering that “neon” Deion was there to witness this momentous event, I am wondering just who the refs thought Hester was taunting…

Mr. Jackson Goes to Washington….ehh Philadelphia

DeSean Jackson had his long awaited return to Philadelphia after Chip Kelly cut the star WR earlier this year. The animated Jackson put up a total of 117 yards including an 81 yard reception for a TD to tie the game late in the 3rd quarter. That would be the end of his influence in Washington’s 37-34 loss. Despite some pushing, shoving, and continued smack talk, Jackson’s return was understated by a nasty brawl after DL Chris Baker blindsided Nick Foles during an apparent INT return. The fire and grit of the players we love, but the NFL must have cringed a bit with all these players throwing punches – good thing they all have domestic violence training within the next 30 days.

Moral Victories Don’t Give You a Ring

For the first time in 17 years, Seattle and Denver met in a rare Super Bowl rematch. Denver fans were looking for retribution; Seattle was looking to prove their dominance. Neither team was able to do either. In a game that was what we expected of last year’s big dance, Seattle allowed Denver to come back in the 4th quarter, setting Peyton up to do what Peyton does. In under a minute, LATE in the 4th quarter, the Broncos drove 80 yds for a TD and two-point conversion to force OT. Peyton marched his team 80 yards in less time than it takes Minute Rice to cook! What will this wizard of the regular season do next? Maybe take that magic to the post-season…No further comments. Unfortunately, that drive wasn’t enough as the Seahawks won the toss and marched 80 yards in 13 plays for a winning TD. Next time Peyton, next time.

Fantasy Studs and Duds

Stud: Andrew Luck – 370 yards and 4 TDs. Yes it was Jacksonville but after the troublesome start the Colts had, it was well deserved and very little luck involved.

Stud: Kirk Cousins – Despite his untimely INT, Cousins passed for over 400 yards and 3 TDs. As a backup, he is taking off in Jay Gruden’s offense. Cousins’ is available in 50% of leagues and keep in mind, those pesky bye weeks are beginning this week!

Dud: LeSean McCoy – 19 carries for 22 yards. That is it. For a first rounder this hurt one team in every league! Chip Kelly wanted to take the grunt work off of McCoy’s shoulders but I am hoping this is not what he meant.

Dud: Matthew Stafford – After nearly making this list last week, Stafford decided he would certainly prove himself worthy of it this week: 246 yards and 2 INTs. Despite the fact that one of his INTs ended up giving the Lions 2 points (safety) 7 or even 3 is better than 2…Math must not have been his major at Georgia.
