NFL Week 1 Skim

Mega Watt

Washington showed up in Houston much like Obama did to speak about his ISIS strategy – unprepared. Two star WRs, a top tier RB, an explosive QB, and a Pro Bowl left tackle but no execution strategy- no one seems to have any strategy in that town. Washington was literally owned and destroyed by one man on Sunday – J.J. Watt. The third year linebacker had a sack, five hits on RGIII, two tackles in the Redskin’s backfield, a batted down pass, a fumble recovery, and a blocked extra point. Oh and helmets – they’re overrated for Mega Watt. Lights out.

I’m not aging, I’m increasing in value…

Fred Jackson knows how to run like a man and he still has the power and drive to demonstrate that. As the oldest starting RB in the league, Fred Jackson proved that age is just a number. The 33 year old put a nasty stiff arm on Chicago’s safety Chris Conte that I’m sure the 25 year old will never live down. That march down to the 1 yd line set up Dan Carpenter’s game winning field goal. You are never too old…

"Don’t you open your mouth about the best. Or I’m ma shut it for you real quick.”

The NFC West looks very good with Seattle and SF showing off in their 2014 debut. The Cardinals came in mediocre and disappointing despite beating San Diego.  The Rams were a little surprising with just how bad their defense performed against Minnesota. The offense, we were all prepared for that…The NFC East had an abysmal showing leaving Philadelphia sitting alone atop the division after week 1 but even they have some serious kinks to work out and with the loss of two starting O-lineman (with one already suspended) and a LB…Chip Kelly may want to invest in Tums.  Meanwhile, the AFC West could be interesting with KC looking forward to a losing season and Denver, while starting out strong, nearly blew it after allowing Indianapolis to get back into the game late in the 4th quarter. Oh to be Peyton Manning…

Monopoly Money

Terry Pegula, Penn State Alumni and owner of the Buffalo Sabres, won the bid to buy the Buffalo Bills today after bids were also submitted from Donald Trump and a Toronto based group that had included rocker Jon Bon Jovi. Not only do the Pegula’s have a monopoly in Buffalo, they also have their name on the new Men’s Ice Hockey rink in State College. The NFL still has to approve this transaction…what are the chances?

Fantasy Studs and Duds

STUD: Le’Veon Bell – Running for 109 yards he looked powerful and fast against a struggling Browns D. He must have heard about the NFL’s changing policy on DUI arrests. Speaking of, may want to "handcuff" him to Blount this week…see that? Too soon?!

STUD: Kelvin Benjamin – This rookie proved he is more polished and NFL ready than he was touted. Six passes for 92 yds and a TD…with a backup QB…watch out for Cam’s return and this dynamic duo!

DUD: Nick Foles – Classic example of QBR and last year’s success going to a young QBs head! After throwing a pick, giving up two fumbles, and absorbing multiple sacks, Foles finally threw for 322 yds and 2 TDs but lets not be fooled…the Eagles have some SERIOUS O-Line concerns as well as Foles concerns.

DUD: Zac Stacy – 43 yards….that is what having no QB does for a RB…43 yards. Stacy had an unusual week for himself however until some type of pass game develops for the Rams, he should only be started against a weak run D…shame.
